Superintendent's State of the School System - Kiwanis, Jan. 26
Dr. Emily Lembeck presented the State of the School System Report to community and civic leaders gathered at the Kiwanis Club of Marietta meeting Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012 at the Marietta Conference Center.

Winter 2012 Kiwanis GEM Awards, Jan. 26
The Kiwanis Club of Marietta supports the students, teachers, and administrative staff at Marietta City Schools by presenting the "Going the Extra Mile" (GEM) Awards three times each year. The winter 2012, Kiwanis GEM Awards were presented Thursday, Jan. 26 at the Marietta Conference Center.
MHS Hosts Looking Toward the Future Transition Conference, Feb. 4
Marietta High School (MHS) will host the annual Looking Toward the Future Transition Conference Saturday, Feb. 4 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. This annual conference sponsored by the Cobb/Marietta/Douglas Interagency Council provides families, educators, and community members with information to assist students/persons with disabilities. Event registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and breakout sessions begin at 10 a.m.
District wide Kindergarten Advanced Registration, Feb. 6-17
Marietta City Schools (MCS) Kindergarten advanced registration for the 2012-2013 school year begins Feb. 6 and ends Feb. 17, 2012. Registration hours at all MCS elementary schools are from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. A complete listing of Marietta City elementary schools is available at www.marietta-city.org/schools. To schedule an elementary school tour, contact the school office.

MCS Begins Statewide Physical Fitness Assessment, Jan. – Apr. 2012
Beginning in January 2012, all Marietta City School students in grades 1 -12, enrolled in a physical education class taught by a certified physical education teacher, will begin undergoing Georgia SHAPE - a mandated annual fitness assessment launched by Governor Nathan Deal in May 2011. Aggregate fitness assessment results are reported to the Georgia Department of Education, and individual results for students in grades 4 – 12 are provided confidentially to parents. There will be no release of data or information that can be identified with, or linked to, a specific child.

Board Supports GSBA Vision for Public Education in Georgia
The Board of Education of the City of Marietta supports The Georgia School Boards Association and the Georgia School Superintendents Association partnership for creating a new vision for public education in the State of Georgia.
